Basketball Career Summary

Pastor Ron Ryals had a long basketball career that began at around five years old. He first played for the Baby Trotters under Coach Milton Parker and Mr. Ronald. He later joined teams like the Afro Brothers (coached by Bubba) and the Cavaliers (coached by Stan Brown), playing point guard from ages 10 to 12. He also played for the Cheba Kings, Sugarhill, and Battlegrounds.

As a teenager, he competed in semi-pro basketball with Intercession in Manhattan under Coach John Black. He then played for Riverside Church under coach Ernie Lurch, who after balling became a Basketball Playground legend from the battlegrounds of uptown Harlem, and in 1980 they won the Christmas Tournament in Canada.

His connections—Tom Louden and Aaron Strahorn, former University of Hawaii players—helped him join an NCAA summer league in Hawaii, representing Hawaii Pacific under Coach Tony Sellito, who wanted him to play for the school. He also formed his own team in Virginia, the All-Stars. Then later competed in a semi-pro league called the Over The Hill League in Gloucester, VA with former NFL and NBA players.
